## Maths example, not real student data

What: solve a two-step equation and explain the operations.
How: apply inverse operations to both sides and check by substitution.
Why: find an unknown while preserving equality.
Criteria: correct operations on both sides, clear working and a valid check.
Prompt: solve 3x + 5 = 26 and justify each step.
Answer: subtract 5, giving 3x = 21; divide by 3, giving x = 7.
Check: 3 × 7 + 5 = 26.
Follow-up: use a different equation to check transfer, not answer recall.
