## Illustrative completed example (not real student data)

- Topic: two-step linear equations.
- Objective: solve ax + b = c and explain the equality-preserving operations.
- Prerequisite: 3x = 12. Expected x = 4 by dividing both sides by 3.
- Worked example: 2x + 3 = 11; subtract 3, divide by 2; x = 4.
- Guided practice: 3x + 4 = 19; subtract 4, divide by 3; x = 5.
- Independent check: 4x + 5 = 21; subtract 5, divide by 4; x = 4.
- Verify each solution by substitution.
- Watch for: subtracting the coefficient instead of dividing.
- Response: revisit multiplication and the meaning of preserving equality.
- Follow-up: a new equation or word problem, not identical answer repetition.
