How to Analyze Student Test Results to Improve Teaching

May 15, 20266 min read

Most educators look at test results and see averages and ranks. Exceptional educators use results as diagnostic data — figuring out exactly where each student went wrong and why. PrepLab's analytics module is designed for this deeper level of interpretation.

This guide teaches you how to systematically analyze student test results on PrepLab.

The Three-Level Analysis Framework

1

Step 1: Level 1: Batch Summary

Start with the batch-level view. Look at the class average score and the score distribution histogram. Identify if the test was too easy (most above 80%), too hard (most below 30%), or well-calibrated.

2

Step 2: Level 2: Chapter Heatmap

Switch to the chapter-wise accuracy view. Identify the 2-3 chapters where batch accuracy is below 50%. These are your next teaching priorities.

3

Step 3: Level 3: Individual Deep-Dive

For students consistently in the bottom 25%, click into their individual profile. Look at time-per-question data to distinguish between students who do not know the material vs. those who are slow.
