Assessment and AI quiz glossary
Plain-language definitions for educators evaluating digital assessment workflows. These terms describe concepts, not a promise that every feature is included in every package.
AI quiz generator
A tool that drafts new questions from a prompt or selected topics. Its output is a draft, not a verified answer key. Teachers must check correctness, coverage and difficulty before use.
PDF-to-test extraction
Converting questions already present in a PDF into editable assessment content. Unlike generation, extraction should preserve the source question, options and figures. Source quality and layout affect the corrections required.
Question bank
A reusable collection of questions with fields such as subject, topic, answer and solution. A useful bank also records source rights and review status so an unverified draft is not mistaken for an approved item.
Test blueprint
A plan for the topics, learning objectives, question types and marks in a paper. It helps a teacher judge coverage before accepting generated or selected questions.
Formative assessment
Assessment used during teaching to decide what to explain, practise or change next. A quiz becomes formative through the way its evidence is used, not through its delivery format.
Diagnostic assessment
A check of prerequisite knowledge or likely misconceptions before teaching. It informs a starting point; one incorrect answer does not establish why a learner struggled.
Summative assessment
An assessment of achievement at a defined endpoint, using agreed objectives and marking rules. Its results may also inform later teaching.
Item analysis
Reviewing responses question by question rather than relying only on a total score. Correct rates, non-attempts and examples of student working help teachers investigate possible issues; they do not alone prove a cause.
White-label coaching app
A student-facing app presented under an institute’s brand. App-store ownership, supported operating systems, access rules, updates and exit arrangements need to be agreed with the provider.
Online test series
A planned set of assessments delivered over time, with enrollment, scheduling, marking and solution-release rules. Its value depends on the questions and feedback as well as the software.
Source-grounded StudyBot
An AI assistant that can use selected learning material when answering a question. Grounding is not a guarantee of correctness. Check source access, missing-information behavior and how students can ask a teacher for help.
Migration pilot
A limited transfer of content and student access before a full platform move. It checks import quality, enrollment dates, permissions and rollback arrangements without assuming all records are portable.
